Falskaar A Skyrim Video Game Resume

On July 12th, 2013 Alexander J. Velicky uploaded his mod named Falskaar to Nexus Mods.  Falskaar had been his life focus for the past year.  With no job, no school and his father supporting him he was the driving and connecting force at the center of a mod that rivals the official DLC provided by Bethesda.  Falskaar may be a great mod for the avid Skyrim fan, but to Mr. Velicky it was a leap of faith in the form of a video game resume to Bethesda.

On the description of Falskaar on Nexus Mods Alexander writes, “I did this because I love game design, it’s my life, and I want a job at Bethesda Game Studios as a level designer. This was for you, Bethesda. I’ll be applying for a job there very soon; I just hope they are as impressed as you guys seem to be!”  Judging by the community’s overly positive response to the release and the quality of the mod, Mr. Velicky really did pour his heart and soul into Falskaar.

The mod features an additional 20-30+ hours of gameplay in a brand new land that is completely separate from Tamriel.  It also adds 26 new quests to the player’s to-do list that includes 9 main story quests that are pretty long quests and 17 side quests for the player to get lost in all of which are challenging.  Most do not hold the players hand and require the player to think through the quest instead of just pulling up the journal to see the next step clearly laid out.  The release also features new items such as weapons and armor and also books and recipes.  In addition to all that, the mod also includes a new sound track that is 40 minutes in length and new voices from 30 different voice actors.

For the last 600 years Falskaar has been inhabited by the Nords, though most of its history from before then is unknown.

For the first time since the party’s arrival in Falskaar almost 600 years ago, a portal activates deep within the ruins of Mzubthand, and the player steps through, arriving in Falskaar. They are denoted ‘The Traveler’, based on an old prophecy.

“They who arrive through the shimmering wall, mark the start of the worst.”

For those looking for a unique and refreshed experience with Skyrim, you can download Falskaar for free.  So will you be starting a new character for this or using an existing one?  What experiences have you had with Falskaar?  Are there any other mods that add on a lot of content like Falskaar in an independent fashion that you would recommend to our readers?
